Who Wants a Drunken Monkey?

So we're going to Tarantino this blog. I'm going to tell you the ending and then tell you what led to the ending - we're going to flip it around. You with me? Alright, here it is:

We had a freakin' blast.

Here's what happened-

So we got set up to headline the Starlight - Props go out to RapidFire Entertainment for setting it up - with a couple sweet opening acts, Audrey Vannessa and Johnny Fedex - and had been looking forward to it for a long time. We were a little bummed that Pete was going to be in Michigan by this time, but then we found out that he was actually going to be flying in that day and was going to play with us again - giving this show the title of the first show of our "Reunion Tour".

Then the Starlight closed. It's a shame, but hopefully someone will buy it soon and continue to bring it up and promote it as a great concert venue.

I learned that the Starlight closed only three days before our gig, and then shortly after learning that it was closed, found out that the show had been moved to the Drunken Monkey, and was not just cancelled. (You're the man Jrock)

I'd never been in the Drunken Monkey, so we checked it out, and then showed up to set up Friday afternoon at 5:30, and learned that the live music was going to only be from 7:00 - 10:00 and then they were bringing in a DJ.... Needless to say that didn't set well with us, seeing as how we were only going to play from 9:00 - 10:00 and most of our friends were coming out at 10:00 or later. The sound equipment was late in getting there, and we were bored so we decided to jam acoustic out on the porch for a good hour or so which was a hell of a lot of fun.

At 8:30 Johnny Fedex started off the show and kicked some ass and did a great job of getting the crowd going. If you haven't seen him before you should definitely check him out. Then Audrey came on with her band and rocked for a solid 40 minutes and then after the one of the quickest changeovers we've ever done we got on stage and laid it all out there for an hour and a half. It was a blast. Hot as pig wrestling in hell and we were sweating like porn stars but we had a freakin awesome time. The place was packed - thanks to all of you who came out - and even people who had never heard us before got really into it.

We will definitely play there again soon, and all of you should take this opportunity to check out the Waido Band out of it's natural habitat.

Until next time!

Chug-a-lug

Last Friday we played our third gig at Chug's Pub here in Fort Collins and packed the place as usual - although to not get too big of a head, it really only takes our families and friends to pack the place, but since it's all our close friends who come out we can really have a great time and have fun with it. We had thought that our last gig at Lucky Joe's would be the last gig that Pete would play with us but we had so much freakin' fun that we just had to string it out.

So we brought the noise, and we brought the funk to Chug's.

Thanks to all of you who came out - it's always a pleasure seeing all the familiar faces of our fans at our gigs. Also thanks to those of you who stuck around and chilled with us after the gig - it's always great meeting new people.

Next gig? Headlining the Starlight w/ Johnny Fedex & Audrey Vanessa! It'll be a kick - make sure to be there!

Oh, and in case you're hesitant, we're billing this as our first "Reunion Tour" with Pete flying in from Detroit just to play with us again. Yeah, it's a little quick to be calling a "Reunion Tour", but hey, Cher's still got us by a week or two...

New Website!

Hey everybody -
We've got our new website up and running & I'll be continuously working on it adding new pictures, new blog posts, and new concert info so bookmark the site and keep checking it out! It's my first real attempt at doing a website (I don't think myspace and blogger count) so it'll be a learning experience for me, but so far it's pretty cool.

Pete's last gig at Lucky Joe's

A couple Friday's ago (I know, I haven't been great about keeping this blog recent) was our drummer Pete "Earwig" Carlson's last gig at Lucky Joes. We went all out. No holds barred. For those of you who were there, you can attest that we just had a great time, hope all of you did to. All four of us were there for a last hurrah to our last couple years of fun and great music with Pete.

But not to worry, he's not completely gone, just moved to Michagan.

Recap of Starlight Show / Lucky Joes

The Waido Band played it's first gig at the Starlight opening up for Jason Vigil the other night. It was way too much fun and it a blast to play with a bass, really filled out the sound. After playing a kick-ass show at the Starlight we quickly tore down and ran over to Lucky Joe's and traded out with Vigil where we were going to end the night. It was a little mellower show since Pete was on hand drums for the entire night, but we still rocked the house.

Was was the best thing about it was that we got to leave all of our stuff set up since we were playing the next night at Joe's as well! Saturday night we had the full trio and played to the usual packed house and to all of our family and friends who continue to come out and support us. Thanks everybody - we continue to have a blast and we hope you do too!

FRIDAY JUNE 2nd - STARLIGHT GIG!

Hey friends, family and fans of the Michael Waido Band!

This Friday, June 2nd, the Starlight presents the Michael Waido Band and Jason Vigil!

We're super excited to play, and the thing that makes it especially fun for us is we're playing with my dad, Jack, sitting in on electric bass! We're planning on rocking the house, and keeping up all set long, so come see some of our new stuff and some of our old with a new addition.

Doors open at 8:00, show starts at 9:00, with the opener Zach Nichols. We're on at 10:00 and then Jason Vigil will start around 11:30.

Cost is $5, which is a great price for the three bands, and it's an all ages show! So tell everyone you know, we hope to pack the place!

See you Friday,
Dave

Recap of Avo's show

Hey guys!
So I've been so busy with music and other things going on that I haven't been able to write any new entries!
Our last gig was at Avogadro's Number here in Fort Collins with folk guitarist Rachel Sedacca. Two days before our gig we learned that we weren't exactly opening for her, but she had wanted us to play with her! So we got together Tuesday evening and practiced a little... maybe two or three songs... and then it was time for the gig!

We started the show with about an hour set, and then Rachel came up and did some of her solo stuff, which was really good. After that she took a break and we came up with her and did about six or seven songs and had a really fun time. I was having fun because I got to play a lot of harmonica and piano - Billy Joel style - and Waido got to bang on the djembe for a few songs. We even got one of my buddies from the audience to come up on shaker for a song - props to you Tim!

Overall it was a great night, a lot of fun and we were able to have a new experience and meet a great new musician, which is really what makes playing different gigs fun.

Anyway, thanks to those of you who came out to see us, and make sure you all check us out this coming Friday at our Starlight gig with Jason Vigil!

Thursday May 18th - Michael Waido Band and Rachel Sedacca

Hey everybody!

Check your calendars and cancel anything that you might have going on this Thursday evening, because the Michael Waido Band is playing our first show at Avogadro's Number here in Fort Collins!

The show starts at 8:00 and we will be opening up for California based acoustic folk guitarist Rachel Sedacca (as she stops in Fort Collins during her cross country tour). The cost is $5, and the show would be a bargain at twice the price. We'd love for you all to come out and show your support at our gig here in our home town.

Saturday, the band drives out to Omaha, NE to open up another show for Rachel Sedacca at Mick's Music and Bar. Another first for the Waido Band - playing a gig in a different state and going on a tour! (However short it may be) So if any of you know friends out in Omaha, tell them to come check us out at Mick's Music and Bar at 5918 Maple Street. The cost of the show is $5 and the music starts at 9:00.

Also wanted to give a quick shout out to those of you who came and saw Waido and I at Chug's Pub a couple weeks ago. Just a really chill show and we were able to have a lot of fun and do some different things. The management was really impressed with the music and also with the crowd we brought (thanks a bunch!) and so we will definitely be playing there again. I'll keep you posted on the details.

Until next time - have a great week and I hope you can make it out to our show this Thursday!

Too much fun last night

Thanks to all of you who came out last night to support us up at the Mishawaka. It was a great show and having all of you up there really made it. It's a great feeling to be playing in front of a crowd doing your own music and having everybody really into it.

A couple of the guys up there at the Mish really liked our set and our music and would like to have us back up there during the summer - so a big thanks to all of you for coming up and packing the place and cheering us on. Hopefully you can all make it back up for a show when we're playing outside on the stage by the river under the stars.

Also a big thanks to Soul Creek for having us play with them and hopefully for all of you that were able to stick around and hear their set - we'll be able to play some more gigs with them later on down the road.

Also just a reminder, next Saturday evening Waido and I will be playing at Chug's Pub over on Prospect and College from 7:00ish to 11:00ish so we hope a lot of you can make it out to that show as well.

Later,
wza

Two upcoming gigs to end April

Hey Everybody!

Hope this finds you all doing well in whatever you're doing today. We've got a couple of gigs coming up I wanted to put out there for you all to know about. We're excited to be playing both of these places and would really like to continue playing them, so it'd be great if we could draw a pretty big crowd.

The first gig is this Saturday (April 22nd) night at Mishawaka Amplitheatre! We'll be opening up for the band Soul Creek, a kind of acoustic reggae type band from Denver. We'd love to play a lot more with them around town and get some bigger gigs at the Mish, so it'd be great for all of you to come on up if you don't have any plans for the night.
The show starts at 8:00pm and is $5 at the door.
The bands will be set up on the inside stage, and the patio will be open, so come on up early, grab a seat in the evening sun by the river, and get some dinner before the music starts.

The second gig is the last Saturday in April - April 29th - and we'll be playing at Chug's Pub in Fort Collins, CO. This is a new thing for us and will be a new thing for the bar as they are just starting up with having live music over the weekends. We're really excited to play and would like to continue playing there, so we'd like to bring a big crowd with us.
Chug's Pub is located on College and Prospect in the plaza with Chuckie Cheese in it. We'll be playing from 7:00 - 11:00 so for those of you who don't like to come out to the late shows at Lucky Joe's, this will be a good opportunity to check us out. Also (although I haven't been out there at night) I would assume it's not going to be really crowded, and most likely there won't be a line. So for all of you who don't like to wait in line and come to a loud crowded bar that we usually play, this is the gig for you.

Anyway, tell all your friends and hopefully we'll see you out the next couple weeks!
